WPC EXPO 2005 基調講演 - Google の拓く次のネット社会

午前中の Amazon の講演 に引き続き、今度は Google の マグラス みづ紀 さんによる「Google の拓く次のネット社会」を聴いて来たので、その感想とプレゼン内容をUPしてみます。

感想

こちらも午前中の Amazon 講演同様、技術的な話、未来展望や web2.0 的な話は特に無く、総合的な「Google の理念とその理念に基づいたサービスの紹介」に終始した内容でした。WPC EXPO 来場者をターゲットにしての講演ってこういう感じの内容になるんですね・・・もっと技術的に突っ込んだ内容を期待していただけにちょっと残念。

しかし、それ以上にプレゼンテーターのマグラスみづ紀さんのキュートっぷりに釘付けになってしまいました。写真で見るよりずっと素敵な方で、一生懸命に身振り手振りしながらGoogleサービスについて説明していた様子とか、緊張していたのか、やたら水をガブ飲みしてた（笑）事とか、もうかわいすぎます。姉さん＋知的＋しぐさがカワイイ と bashi のツボをつく属性持ちまくり。あー俺も Google Tokyo R&D Center で仕事してぇー。

• Born at Stanford, raised in a garage
• a research project at Stanford University (1995)
• Larry Page's BackRub system > later becomes Page Rank (name taken from Mr. Larry)
• google.stanford.edu
  • 4GB hard disk drives held together with lego blocks
  • starts shutting down stanford's network, so had to move out, to a garage in sillicon valley

- Google Today

• world's largest search engine, 3 times larger than any other search engine.
• employees sum up to 4989, many of whom are technical/engineering
• market share : about 56 percent of Internet search referrals

it's not just translation. you have to take into account the market, culture, political issuses, and lot more

important thing is that these services are OPTIONAL. we're not forcing you to open your personal information.

The Inside

- Who Does All this? Who Makes These Things?

• Talented motivated people
• working in small teams of 3-5 people
• on problems that matter
• with access to enormous computational resources
• "20% rule" to explore your own ideas -- can spent 20% time for your own creative work, exploring the world. Gmail, orkut Google news all started from one person's 20% time.

質疑応答はありませんでした。Tokyo R&D Center に求められてる人材像とか聞いてみたかった・・・ /w

後者記事の人材像を見る限り... 「C++またはJavaによる高いプログラミング能力」、「システムソフトウェアやアルゴリズムについての十分な理解」辺りが圧倒的に足りてない感じ (Perl ...だけじゃ駄目デスカ？)。日々精進ですな・・・。
